i have a love hate relationship with maxi dresses. i love the look of them, but with my short frame tend to feel overwhelmed in one. and this past weekend on montana avenue all i could see where cute women everywhere sporting maxi dresses.
and so even though b is not a fan of maxi dresses, i am on the hunt for the perfect maxi dress (that will of course require hemming) for summer 2013. while i would prefer a bright colored maxi to sport around town, this tribal print maxi dress could be a good start at an incredible price of under$25!
are you on board for the maxi dress trend? what are your favorite maxi dresses out right now?
if you like these archer sandals by dolce vita for $68.95, you will LOVE these even more...
forever 21 is currently selling these almost identical metal-trimmed thong sandals (except in price) for $16.80! for the price of one dv sandal you can get three! i may not be a genius when it comes to math, but i know a good deal when i see one, and this my friends is a great deal!
i personally am still loving the trend and am especially loving this cobalt open-front blazer! i like the versatility it allows, and also think it kind of resembles this rebecca minkoff becky jacket i've been eyeing for the past few months.
go bold or go home! let's continue to blaze it up!
how are we all feeling about the peplum trend? still a fan or want to move on?
me personally, still a fan. which is why i encourage all of you that do like the peplum trend to order this knit peplum top from forever 21. it's under $15 and i have already received no joke 10 compliments on it 3 of which were from complete strangers.
you can't see in the picture but it has a cute zipper back and works lovely with my new factory brass-plated crystal necklace that i received yesterday from jcrew.
this top is perfect to dress up or down and is soft and comfortable. what more could you want?
geo pattern shift dress - while i am not crazy about the color of the dress, i do really enjoy the belt and chevron print. i am thinking with a bright statement necklace we have an all around winner!
striped shirred waist top - it can be concluded that i have a slight addiction to stripes, but then to go ahead and add the peplum to the stripes - go ahead and commit me cause i love every bit of it.
what trends are you okay with moving from 2012 to 2013? which trends would you like to see disappear?
looking through my closet recently i noticed a few things...
*i have been very frugal with my clothing purchases
*i think i buy more workout attire than normal clothes
*i need to add red, pink, and blue into my wardrobe more
* i need to buy new jeans
*i lack polka dots
which is why this polka dot raglan sweater is the perfect piece for me to add as it is both work friendly and weekend friendly. plus every time i see someone wearing polka dots i get jealous that i have not incorporated any into my fashions as of late.
capes. formally only for superheroes are now being worn by all in the fashion world.
a heavy coat in l.a. is a bit of a waste of money as it only gets probably 30 days of wear for the year. but a good cape can be worn well into the spring. this contrast boucle poncho (it's a cape) is the perfect piece to add to your fall wardrobe that will also work in the winter. i love the marbled grey and contrast black stitching, perfect to dress up or down depending on what your day has in store.
what do you think about the cape trend? in or out?
i finally found my chambray/denim shirt! i have been on the hunt for some time now and am happy to report that i found one for under $20 two weekends ago and have already worn it three times! i paired it out one saturday night with a fitted black skirt, and then wore it to work two separate times with different black skirts. best news...i received numerous compliments on it and had to share it with y'all.
please note the shirt is a MILLION times better than the picture here. trust.
okay, okay - tomorrow officially marks the first day of fall, and even though i am still feeling summery, i guess i can jump on the fall bandwagon because the return of fall means the return of plaid!
i love plaid but feel it is definitely more appropriate for fall and winter. after looking through my closet this past week, i noticed i am seriously lacking some plaids.
so i think i will just need to invest in either this plaid flannel western shirt in red or this double pocket tartan shirt in black and aqua, or perhaps i will purchase both. my biggest goal is to pair one of them with a leather skirt and booties as i have been seeing them all over the fashion blogs. love that look!
are you excited to pull out your plaid shirts for fall??
b and i are off to a wedding in colorado in a few weeks and i am complete stumped on what to wear.
i figured now would be the best time to try out rent the runway since i have been dying to try it for some time now. below are my three favorite choices, all under $75, would you be so kind to help a girl out with your opinion?
bcbg my soulmate dress - love the color, love the tulle trim and the sweetheart neckline. but is too bridesmaid-y?
tibi's bond girl dress - love the pleated skirt and the sweetheart bodice - been eyeing this puppy for many events. too much for a summer wedding?
shoshanna's optical bustier dress - the color is unique and i love the pattern and fit. plus pockets never hurt anyone! but is it a bit on the boring side?
but then i peeped over at nordies and noticed this parker strapless silk dress i've been crushing on is on sale - and i could own it and wear it again!
the colors are my fave and i like the pattern at the bottom - fun and unique. but is it a little too crayola crayon-y?
i reach out to you my lovely ybb readers to help me decide what to wear to this wedding. i am going to be meeting new friends and girlfriends and want to look spectacular. i've been working out hard at the gym and want to show off the results i have achieved while mingling and having some fun.
this picture on starbucks instagram made me feel all warm and fuzzy inside.
it made me think of all of my amazing friends and how i adore them so much.
it made me reminsce about getting crafty and making bracelets for my besties when i was younger.
then it made me want to give all of my gf's a bracelet to show them all how much they mean to me.
the bad news...i am so not crafty anymore.
the good news. there are so many darling frienship bracelets available to buy out there that i have a plethora to choose from - all of which are better than i could ever try to create!
arm candy is a look/trend that i just love but haven't tried yet. i see it on my roomie, on my blog friends, on celebs, pretty much everyone and still i haven't sported this trend yet.
after spying the pieces above i feel like i may have to try the trend soon as they are all perfect additions to a few pieces i already have.
what do you think about the arm candy trend? love it? hate it? what are the rules/keys to a successful arm?
if you find the photo above offensive or inappropriate in anyway, please stop reading this post and please stop reading fifty shades of grey immediately.
i began reading fifty shades after i heard all the hype surrounding it. upon a little more research i learned that the author e.l. james loved the twilight books so much but always wished there was more sex, so she decided to write her own book, set in washington, with lots of sex. then my gf shelby said it was pretty steamy and i thought, what the hell?
and let me just tell you. it definitely has its steamy moments and lots of sex.
without giving too much away here are some of my thoughts on fifty shades...
*sex scenes are graphic and definitely arouse the imagination
*the author uses the same adjectives and words a lot. to the point of extreme annoyance
*miss steele went to wsu-vancouver - happy for the reference to wsu in such a popular book - go cougs!
*inner goddess annoys the f out of me
* ending felt a little flat
after finishing the book i of course bought fifty shades darker, for my kindle on my ipad (perfect device to hide what you a reading in public or say at the dentist office). not because i thought the book was so good and i couldn't wait to read the next one, but because i was interested in where she would go with the next book and the sex scenarios. truth.
the books are terribly written. the sex scenes are unexpected and naughty. that's why you are reading it. don't fool yourself, it really is a sexy version of twilight (minus vampires, werewolves and bella - thank god). if you read these books for the reasons highlighted above, you won't be disappointed. if you are reading them for a romantic love story and literary genius, this is not the book for you my friend.
i love the way this book has brought forth a sexual awakening of sorts amongst women of all ages and opened people up to options other than "vanilla sex".
i am still on the hunt for a the perfect summer wedge and keep trying and trying and keep coming home empty handed.
from the pictures i see online, these tiered wedge sandals seem pretty cute and a decent height. however, the think the suede and cork could come off looking cheap and i may need to try before i buy on these guys.
what i like about them is that they v below the ankle, elongating the leg (i need all the help i can get with that). anyone seen any adorable wedges that are nude and angle below the ankle for under $150?
happy may gray day! even though the gray skies continue to rule over los angeles, my recent spray tan appointment and vacation in 15 days has me in a summer lovin' kind of mood.
even though my vacation isn't to anywhere tropical, i am dreaming of blue skies, warm sun on my shoulders and all the fun that summer brings today.
the items that currently haunt my summer dreams include:
every summer my flip flops take a beating and need to be replaced and every year i almost cave and buy those $50+ capri ones and every year i am saved by a cheaper pair. this year gap nailed it with their leather flip flops available in a variety of colors and even come with a little extra cushion for your footsies. awesome.
like the ray of light kissing my shoulders, my toes will be sporting deborah lippmann's version of ray of light. perhaps i will even listen to madonna's take on "ray of light". that's cray, cray.
in order to fully get the most benefits from my fringe, i plan to snack on these tasty little that's it. bars that give you two servings of fruit in one bar. two fruits, one bar - much better than that other two girls one cup business (do not google it).
lastly a sweet little tumbler to enjoy a variety of light beverages from - although i am heavily leaning towards a calimocho or sangria - yum.
i am majorly loving the scallop lace trend that i see everywhere. combine that with some stripes that i am still addicted to from last year, some nude heels and a statement necklace and i have a perfect little friday or saturday night outfit.
this past weekend in whistler i tried on the lululemon stride jacket above and fell instantly in love. not much of an impulsive shopper, i thought it best to wait and pickup in the states. dumb move. it is no longer available and if i want to make it mine i have to buy it on ebay. tear.
also, i am loving this topshop giant pansy stripe bodycon dress which was in 3 magazines i read over the weekend. don't worry...sold out as well. mother trucker.
those two sold out striped goodies got me in an all things stripe mood and has me thinking i shouldn't delay in purchasing the stripes below.
