happy first monday of august!  where has the summer gone?!

 

i know that i have been MIA lately, but work and life has been keeping me busy and on my toes!  i have missed blogging as a release for my brain, and am hoping that i will be able to be back on her on a regular basis.  but sometimes things come up that cause you to push pause your hobbies, take in all the things around you and then return to normal and push play. 

 

that said, i had to share this awesome song that is just perfect for the last few weeks of summer.  sebastian's "love in motion" is so good!  it's a little bit 80's, dance worthy and has just a hint of prince to it.  and i LOVE it!

i fell in love with this striped cutout dress after seeing it on stephanie sterjovski's instagram feed the other weekend.  i think it is so cute and fun and summery and i am crossing my fingers that i find it at my local forever 21 this weekend to wear to a going away party saturday night.

i am loving the new politics "harlem" song oh so much this summer.  it's a little bit punk and a lot of fun!  plus it makes me want to dance or take a road trip with my head out the window hair blowing in the wind.  pure fun and excellence!

yay for the weekend!  this week went by super fast with b's b*day on tuesday, dinner at animal wednesday (where i had the MOST incredible salad ever, along with the pork belly sliders - yum), and a dodger game last night (win)!

 

tomorrow i'm brunching with some gals i always have a fun time with (the other b in my life, this is not your life and sweet nothings), catching up with my fave gal pals and hopefully finding more throw pillows and a coffee table for the new place! 

 

i can't believe this sunday marks the end of june, but i am ready to welcome in july with big open arms!

tonight i celebrate my girlfriend karah being cancer free for 3 months, tomorrow more celebrations are to be had and sunday...who knows!

 

i also am excited that i am finally cleared to work out since spraining my ankle memorial day!  wish me luck and let's hope my swimsuit still fits!

i have a love hate relationship with maxi dresses.  i love the look of them, but with my short frame tend to feel overwhelmed in one.  and this past weekend on montana avenue all i could see where cute women everywhere sporting maxi dresses. 

 

and so even though b is not a fan of maxi dresses, i am on the hunt for the perfect maxi dress (that will of course require hemming) for summer 2013.  while i would prefer a bright colored maxi to sport around town, this tribal print maxi dress could be a good start at an incredible price of under$25!

it's been awhile since i shared a forever 21 find, but i had to share this open-front chevron cardigan as it is the perfect piece for summer.  i am thinking this cardigan would be so fantastic for summer bonfires, hollywood cemetery screenings or concerts in the park after the sun sets and the evening breezes in.

i stepped wrong in step class on monday and am now sporting a lovely cankle and limping around town.  not my favorite week ever. 

 

excited for the weekend as the last three weeks have been super stressful at work and i am feeling a little down in the dumps.

Song of the Week: #Beautiful

i have a total love/hate relationship with mariah carey.  the hate meter has been in the full mode for almost ten years now.  gone were the gold old mariah days, replaced with the emancipation of mimi (no thank you) and other crappy songs. 

however, my hate meter of mariah is currently at an all time low, as i am IN LOVE with her latest song "#beautiful" (although really, wtf is up with the hahtag business)?  maybe it's because it's a duet with miguel, maybe it's because it has an old school vibe to it, or maybe it's because mariah cut all the crap finally and just sings great lyrics they way she used to. 

whatever the reason may be, i love this song.  it's pretty and makes me smile and wanna sway side to side in my car with sun shining down in through the sun roof. 

perfect summer jam. 

Best Brush Ever!

 

no seriously.  this little guy is amazeballs. 

 

i have super fine hair that is a pain in the butt to comb out when i get out of the shower.  so much so that i don't brush my hair ever. 

 

for reals.  i only brush my hair when i get out of the shower.  and even then i don't actually brush it, i just comb it and it usually takes a some time and results in a loss of a lot of hair and a bit of a sore head (and god knows how many broken hairs). 

 

so imagine my delight when my new hairdresser ashley worked this nifty weird gadget through my hair in a matter of seconds (all while it massaged my head).  i immediately asked what the hell was that.  and she informed me it was called the "tangle teezer" and it was great on all types of hair, wet or dry. 

 

i was of course sold and ready to purchase only to find out that they are kind of hard to track down (i should have ordered online).  a few weeks ago i found this sparkly brush at barrington court health & beauty supply and couldn't wait to try it out at home...turns out it works just as well at home as it did in the salon! 

 

it does sometimes make me feel like i am brushing a horses tail due to the shape and sound, but i promise you, this brush is life changing!  it's the perfect brush for summer beach days, or everyday shower days!

Song Of The Week: Car Song (Feat. Santigold)

"car song" by spank rock is another great summer jam.  while i have never heard of spank rock before but am very familiar with santigold (i adore her voice so much) so i had a feeling i would like it.  feeling confirmed.

i cannot stop groovin' to the neighbourhood's "sweater weather".  it gets me in the mood for summer (i realize spring has just sprung) and makes me want to cruise down the pch with my sunroof open and watching the waves crash by.

Song of the Week: Pop That

man i love french montana's "pop that".  it immediately has me bouncing up and down in my seat, house or wherever it comes on. 

the video is totally a stereotypical rap video with big booty women in barely there clothing but i think it makes the song all the more fun. 

this song is helping me enjoy my last week of summer (the l.a. heatwave is definitely not bringing fall to mind for many here) and also helping me push myself a little bit harder with my workouts.

Song of the Week: My Homies Still

anyone else loving lil wayne's "my homies still" as much as my roomie and me? 

the video is bizarre but the song is straight up summer fun and fantastic.  a much welcomed return by weezy f baby if you ask me. 

the awesome robert at cw worked this song into rotation in my 6 pm class last friday and it was much needed after the long week i had last week.  "my homies still" continued to lift my spirits well into the weekend which included some much needed r&r as well as some pool time and light spirits.

Song of the Week: Hands on the Wheel

  i have to admit i have been a little late to the game in sharing this awesome song with you. refinery 29 shared an awesome mix back in march (download the entire list - so great) and i was excited to hear a familiar voice on the mix from lissie.  then the song mixed into a great number that i have been listening to non-stop since march.

"hands on the wheel" is my go to song for the gym, in the car, getting ready, you name it i am listening to it.  seeing as i was already a fan of the "pursuit of happiness" by kid cudi and the cover by lissie (not to mention the awesome remix by steve aoki) this song was destined for greatness with me. 

love it.  put your "hands on the wheel" folks, we have a whole entire week before the weekend again.


Song of the Week: Pontoon

continuing on with my country music obsession during the summer, comes the song "pontoon" by little big town. 

b and i were first introduced to this song our first night in colorado a few weeks back.  it was a warm evening, we were a few shots of fireball deep and just sitting on the back porch watching the sunset and chatting.  when the song first came on i thought it was ok, and just assumed it was an old country song from the 80s. 

the rest of the week in colorado the song kept playing on the radio and b and i would look at each other and giggle.  when i returned to l.a. and purchased the song and looked up the video i was shocked to see that it was very much a new song and i am loving it. 

totally summer.  totally makes me want to be on a pontoon.  and totally awesome. 

anyone know the best place to rent a pontoon?  i want to do all of the things they reference in the video (mostly the slide off the back)!

Forever Frugal Friday

as the summer weeks dwindle down and labor day is fast approaching, now is the time to fit in as much white dress wearing as you can! 

i love this eyelet swing dress (hate the styling) and think it is a perfect summer date dress.  pair it with a bright lace trim bandeau and you add a little spice to the dress. 

eyelet, white and scalloped edges - the definition of summer.
