If You're Going to San Francisco....

And I am!!! B just booked our flights to San Francisco! I am so excited!!

I am a bit embarrassed to admit this, but in the 8 years I have lived in LA I haven't once been up to San Fran!  In fact the last time I was in San Fran that I can remember was like 21 years ago! FAIL!

B and I are headed up to San Fran Sunday-Tuesday for my little birthday getaway and I need your help!  We will be staying in Union Square but are open to traveling wherever!  I am hoping to fit in a Giants vs Dodgers game on Monday the 11th and other than that we are wide open!

What restaurants must we eat at?  What coffee shops have the best drip coffee out there?  What romantic place should we grab a cocktail?  Any must see museums?  Please, please, please leave me any recommendations here!

Thanks so much!

Have fun! We love San Francisco!

Last time we went, we had great food at Frjtz. The Ferry Building is really cute, and Kara's Cupcakes are the BEST! Oh, and be sure to ride the cable car, those are fun!

And just a little funny, the last time we drove up, C made a mixed cd for us to listen to and "If You're Going to SF" was on there, and I thought he was saying, "be sure to wear sunflowers in your hair..." Apparently, it's SOME flowers, hehee :)

Definitely Ferry Building for the farmers market, blue bottle coffee and delicious treats!! Also if you are in the Union Square Area a cute romantic dinner spot is Cafe Claude tucked away on Claude lane with live jazz music. You MUST grab a cocktail at the top of the Starlight room for the "old sf glamour" and a great view of the city. For shopping and cute cafes I would suggest either Valencia in the Mission, Fillmore in Pac Heights, or Chestnut in the Marina! So much to do e-mail me if you want specifics! xoxo

Agree with the Ferry Building! There is an amazing exhibit at the MOMA about fashion from of paper. I've lived in San Francisco for 18 years. Here is what you should do: visit Flax art store on Market and Gough, eat at Slanted Door, go across the bridge to Sausalito for brunch near the sailboats. You can drive or take the Ferry. Rent or bring bikes if you want to take a scenic ride along the water. Have fun!

I absolutely LOVE San Fran. There's a little Italian restaurant called Firenze By Night...AMAZING gnocchi! Also there's a wine/cupcake pairing place that I wanted to try last time I was there and they were closed. Can't remember the name but I'm sure you can Google it. I also recommend going to Alcatraz. It's definitely touristy but such an amazing tour. Have a blast.

OH I love that city so much. So many great places. Look into Bourbon and Branch.

Also, finding local blogs totally helps. I love this one http://nikymarie.blogspot.com/

Check out Tartine for brunch (try the bread pudding & almond croissant), SPQR in Pacific Heights for a fantastic dinner, Britex in Union Square for some fun fabric shopping, Heidi Says (3 boutiques all on Fillmore St) for shoes & great clothes, Bi-rite for an ice cream cone, Jeremy's right by the ballpark for shopping...You'll have a blast!

Sooo many great restaurants to choose from. I love lunch at the Rotunda at Neiman Marcus (right in Union Square). The bar at Epic Roasthouse has amazing views of the Bay. If you can swing it and want to do some serious eating, Gary Danko is the spot. Bix is a pretty amazing little spot as well. Have fun!

I second Tartine for breakfast. (There's always a line, but it moves quickly and is sooo worth it) The ferry building is also a good choice, as is Bourbon and Branch(although the neighborhood it's in can be a little rough.) If you're in Northbeach, on the main drag is a tiny place I love called Osteria del'Forno. It's funny to find such a charming little gem surrounded by super touristy spots. Nearby is a shop called Eifel and Eifel - GREAT stuff, (mostly homewares).
When you go to ATT park, there are a ton of bars/restaurants to hit up first. I like 21st amendment and Paragon, but Momos can be a lot of fun if you want to scene.
Also, pack a sweater! And have fun!
