A Thousand Thanks...

I just finished A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini and have to say that it was quite a powerful read. This book is spans for the 1970's until 2003 and follows the stories of two women who grew up with very different lives but found themselves connected during all the turmoil in Afghanistan.

I LOVED The Kite Runner and didn't expect to enjoy this novel as much. Perhaps because it was told from a female perspective, and the hardships they experienced, I found that I liked this novel better than The Kite Runner. It is an emotional read, that made me very thankful for all the freedoms we have in the United States as women. It has some very graphic descriptions and is very heavy, a yet still hopeful. I highly recommend this book to all of you who have asked if I liked the book, and also to anyone who is looking for a book with a lot of substance to it.

Whenever I come off a serious read like this, I like to lighten up the mood with a little humor, which is why my next book is Chelsea Handler's, Are You There, Vodka? It's Me, Chelsea.

I need to give the Kite Runner another try. I've heard such good things.

I really want to read Chelsea's book. I think my book might be called, "Are you there red wine? It's me, jamie."

Mrs. Jetplane & The New Black ~ My favorite kind of books (regardless of how stupid I look while doing it) are ones that have me laughing out loud whilst reading them. I have already been guilty of doing this so far with Chelsea's book...

Rosselini ~ I am really excited to read it! Glad you loved it so much!

Jamie ~ Give Kite Runner some love. You just have to be in the right mood, since it is such a heavy read. Perhaps save it for fall?

My book would be Are you there Chardonnay? It's me Lyndsy! (LOVE IT!)
